Why Consign with Keystone?

Experience gets Results

With 15 years' experience and millions of dollars in goods sold, Keystone Auctions LLC is the leading auction house in the south central PA and northern MD region. We serve York and the surrounding areas including Lancaster, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., and more. We use the latest technology to bring together thousands of bidders from around the world on auction day. Keystone consistently puts together themed auctions that get top results for our consignors.

  • Between 20 and 25 auctions per year.
  • An average of 750 lots per auction.
  • An average of nearly 300 unique buyers per auction.
  • An audience of thousands viewing each auction.
  • An email contact list of over 8000 potential bidders.
Antiques are a family business and it shows. Auctioneer Gary Klinger is a second generation antiques dealer and in his youth was immersed in antiques, period furniture, historic items, and much much more. But Keystone is more than antiques and furniture, offering a huge array of fine and costume jewelry, precious stones and metals, coins and currency, collectibles, fine and pop art, antiquities, relics, military items, rugs, sculpture, hobbyist items, and much more.

How it Works

Auctions Specific for You

Keystone Auctions avoids "grab bag" auctions, preferring instead to offer themed and curated auctions to best utilize marketing and attract maximum attention from serious buyers. We won't place your items for sale until the right mix of offerings is available. If your collection is large enough, we can have an auction just for you.

Keystone utilizes staff expertise in a variety of subject areas, seeking outside help when needed, to properly identify, describe, catalogue, professionally photograph, and promote your items. An online auction house, we list our auctions with multiple online bidding platforms which increases exposure and enhances bidder competition. We also promote sales on Facebook and Instagram, and regularly advertise in publications targeting the auction industry.

We routinely hold auctions on Live Auctioneers, Invaluables, HiBid, AuctionZip, and more.

How to Start

Call Keystone Auctions at 717-755-8954
Email Keystone Auctions at [email protected]

If you are interested to learn more, contact Keystone Auctions to talk about consigning with us. We will want to know

  • What do you have?
  • What is the condition of the items?
  • What is the provenance for these items?
  • Where is it located?
  • What time frame do you have?

A picture is worth many many words, so if you have a few pictures of your collection, you can send emails to Keystone Auctions for us to review.

The Auction Process

Intake of Inventory

Keystone Auctions can arrange for pickups or if convenient for you, have you bring the items to our main office for intake. At that time, with your help, we will complete an inventory sheet with a list of what has been consigned, and label each item for consignor identification. If you have information regarding item authenticity, provenance, condition, and so forth, we will record that information to help with our research.

Lotting

Your items then go through the lotting process, where our staff examines each item and uses various business and online resources to establish proper identity and build a description and anticipated hammer price. The items are then assigned a lot number and a target auction date with other lots designed to maximize bidder interest. Higher-value items are lotted individually, while lower-value items may be grouped.

Professional Photography

The lots are then transferred to our team of photographers who photograph each item to show its best features and markings but, to be fair to our audience, also any defects.

Upload, Marketing, and Auction

Once enough progress has been made toward completely lotting and photgraphing an auction, uploads are made to various internet auction and marketing sites to inform our audience what is coming up for sale, and we send out an email announcement. As auction day approaches, we answer questions about the items and continue to refine lot information up until the auction.

Finally, on auction day (always a Friday), we hold the auction. After that we work with customers and shippers to get each lot to its new owner.

Consignor Payments

Consignor payments are typically made within thirty days of an auction. Specific terms and commission rates are worked out with the auctioneer.

Unsold Items

There are two principal options for unsold items: We can offer the items for sale again, perhaps making adjustments to the item details, or we can return them to the consignor. These options are worked out with the auctioneer.
